Amy Dowden's future 'sealed' on Strictly after eight years on BBC show

Amy Dowden may be stepping away from “Strictly Come Dancing,” if the latest betting odds are anything to go by. Rumors are swirling about the Welsh dancer’s possible departure from the beloved BBC program, especially following her early exit this season with partner Thomas Skinner. Dowden, aged 35, had to pause her role as a professional dancer after being diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2023. Thankfully, by February of the following year, she was declared cancer-free, marking her return to the dance floor alongside JB Gill. However, her comeback was cut short by a foot injury, leading to her replacement by Lauren Oakley mid-competition.

According to a report from Wales Online, betting company Betway now suggests that Dowden could be taking a hiatus from “Strictly,” giving 5/1 odds on her potential exit. There’s also speculation about her next move, with similar odds suggesting she might venture into the “I’m A Celebrity” jungle.

In light of these developments, Express Online has reached out to Dowden’s representative for an official comment.

These rumors follow her and Thomas Skinner’s early elimination from the dance contest. The pair performed a salsa to Dizzee Rascal’s “Bonkers,” but failed to win over the judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood, who all chose to save competitor Chris Robshaw instead.

Motsi Mabuse, who held the deciding vote on that week’s show, wasn’t required to announce her decision, but expressed that she would have also sided with her fellow judges, as confirmed in a conversation with host Tess Daly.

Reflecting on his time on Strictly, Thomas said: “I’ve loved it. I’ve never danced before and my stay was short, but Amy’s amazing.

“It’s been great fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I can’t really dance that well but I’ve had fun! Thank you, Amy – sorry that we haven’t done too good, ’cause you’re a different class.”

Meanwhile, Amy said: “We’ve laughed so much. We’ve worked so hard and a glitterball would have been amazing, but what I’ve learnt in the last few years is happiness, health and being alive is more important than anything.

“There is a ballroom boy in there, so I’m a bit gutted he didn’t get to do the ballroom, but the last three years, as you know, have been quite difficult for me. I lost all confidence as a dancer – but walking into the room with you with a massive smile and a laugh, you brought me back and, honestly, thank you.”

Strictly Come Dancing resumes on Saturday 25 October on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
