WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) — Authorities have apprehended three men from the suburbs who are accused of attempting to impersonate law enforcement officers.

Jonathan Capp, aged 22 from Wheaton; Andrew Knight, 24 from Darien; and Cole Sarros, 26 from Woodridge, made their initial appearances in DuPage County court on Monday morning.

The legal complaint alleges that the trio conspired to “dress like peace officers,” donning tactical or ballistic vests as part of their disguise.

It was revealed in court documents that each man was in possession of firearm ammunition despite lacking the necessary Firearm Owners Identification card. Authorities also discovered a range of other items in their vehicle, including flash bangs and lighter fluid.

Prosecutors say they were planning to go to political protests on Saturday.

That was when dozens of “No Kings” rallies were being held across the area.

Capp wore a “camo face mask while in possession of an airsoft rifle and handgun without an orange tip that appeared to be legitimate firearms,” the complaint said.

They’re next due in court Nov. 17.

They’ve been required to surrender any firearms, ammunition or other dangerous weapons to Elmhurst police.
