A shocking road rage incident in Indiana has led to murder charges after a woman allegedly shot and killed a man for honking at her when she failed to proceed at a green traffic light.
According to an affidavit, 23-year-old Deborah Benefiel became infuriated when 21-year-old Kentrell Settles honked his horn and maneuvered around her vehicle. In response, she reportedly pursued him and fired a bullet through his rear window on Friday afternoon, as reported by WISH.
When Indianapolis Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Settles bleeding in the driver’s seat. He was rushed to a hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
“It’s utterly senseless,” remarked Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears in an interview with WXIN. “The victim simply honked his horn and tragically lost his life.”
Authorities utilized license plate tracking technology to identify and locate the suspect’s SUV. Benefiel was apprehended just hours after the shooting and now faces charges of murder and criminal recklessness.
Benefiel refused to speak with detectives after her arrest. She was identified as the shooter by Settles’ girlfriend, who was in the car with hi at the time of the shooting.
Benefiel is being held without bond.
