A Georgia couple is facing serious charges after allegedly leaving their three young children, all under five years old, unattended and famished at a campsite. The parents, Jason Askea, 46, and Kira Askea, 41, are accused of subjecting their children to extreme neglect and cruelty.

Legal documents acquired by Law&Crime reveal that the couple terminated essential medical support for their 2-year-old son, who has Down syndrome. This included cutting off his necessary oxygen supply, crucial for his brain development, and removing his feeding tube, vital for his nutritional intake.

Moreover, the young boy was suffering from a severe dental infection, as stated in the complaint. The situation came to light when the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by a concerned camper at Little Tallapoosa Park in Carrollton, 45 miles west of Atlanta, on September 16.

According to a report by local Fox station WAGA, the children, aged 2, 4, and 5, were found in a tent, having gone without food for two days. They expressed their hunger to the person who notified the authorities.

Local Fox affiliate WAGA reports the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded on Sept. 16 to Little Tallapoosa Park in Carrollton, which is some 45 miles west of Atlanta, for a report of the abandoned children in a tent. A camper called cops after seeing the kids, ages 2, 4 and 5, alone. The kids reportedly told the caller they were hungry and had not eaten in two days.

The kids also appeared to be covered in feces. Like the boy with Down syndrome, the other two kids also had bad dental hygiene, cops concluded.

Eventually, the parents returned to the campsite and cops took them to jail where they remain without bond. They reportedly told cops they had recently lost their home and had been living with the kids in a tent in the 330-acre park.

The children are now in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services.
