Few footballers have ever matched the striking power displayed by former Liverpool stars Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise. Gerrard was renowned for his formidable right foot, while Riise was famous for his explosive left.

Both players are celebrated for unforgettable goals: Gerrard’s last-minute scorcher in the 2006 FA Cup final and Riise’s incredible free-kick against Manchester United in 2001.

After years of speculation about who possessed the more powerful shot, the two Liverpool legends finally decided to settle the debate in a head-to-head challenge, with Riise emerging victorious.

The showdown occurred just before the Nexon Icons legends match at Seoul World Cup Stadium. During a series of contests, Gerrard and Riise participated in an event where they launched balls at a specially-designed prop, lined with stacked sheets, to measure their raw power.

Riise’s shot proved superior, bursting through the entire obstacle and eliciting awe from the South Korean spectators. Gerrard’s attempt, though still impressive, did not penetrate as far.

The moment sparked huge cheers – and laughter – from the players and fans alike. Riise later shared the footage on Instagram with the caption: “Memories made today. The welcome we have from the fans in Korea is insane!” Gerrard replied in good spirits, dropping a simple laughing emoji.

As for the exhibition game itself, Riise had the last laugh once again. His team of legendary defenders beat Gerrard’s team of attackers 2-1, thanks to late goals from Maicon and Jooho Park.

Riise 2, Gerrard nil.
