Cuellar Confirms Border Patrol, ICE, and CBP Continue Receiving Pay Amid Government Shutdown

HARLINGEN, Texas (Border Report) — U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, has confirmed that despite the ongoing government shutdown, personnel from the U.S. Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are continuing to receive their salaries.

In a media conference call on Tuesday morning, Cuellar explained that the funding for these federal law enforcement officers is being sourced from a $10 billion allocation provided by the Big Beautiful Bill.

Cuellar highlighted that these payments are being ensured as long as they are associated with border security efforts. “I’m pleased that these officers are receiving their due compensation,” he remarked, “but it’s important to note that the civilian and support staff members, who are integral to the operations of the men and women in blue, are not being compensated. They continue to perform their duties at the bridges and within the Border Patrol, yet we must ensure that everyone receives their pay.”

“I’m glad that they’re getting paid, but the civilians or the support staff for the men and women in blue are not getting paid. So they’re still at the bridges. They’re still at the Border Patrol working, but we need everybody to get paid,” Cuellar said.

He says the money is paying salaries of over 61,000 law enforcement agents.

That includes Coast Guard operators, which Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem earlier this month announced would continue to get paid during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Members of the military also are being paid.
