A man from California has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 71-year-old father, allegedly claiming he needed to “finish the job” because his father owed him $5,000.

Alfred Juarez Jr., aged 49, faces several charges including murder, elder abuse resulting in significant harm, robbery, and carjacking related to the death of Alfred Juarez Sr., as per court documents. Juarez Jr. is currently held in the Kern County Jail without the option of bail, awaiting his next court appearance set for October 27.

The Bakersfield Police Department responded to a call at approximately 6:30 p.m. on October 13 at a residence on the 6100 block of Chandler Way. The call was regarding an unresponsive individual, according to a report by local NBC affiliate KGET. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim had visible injuries consistent with an assault and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police located and apprehended his son in Los Angeles County.

KGET accessed a probable cause affidavit that detailed police review of video surveillance capturing the incident. The footage allegedly depicted the victim exiting the house with his son following. Juarez Jr. reportedly forcefully pushed open the screen door and struck his father on the head, according to the affidavit.

The suspect is then accused of turning the victim around and forcibly taking his car keys from his belt. Subsequently, the victim clutched his chest and collapsed, while Juarez Jr. departed in his father’s vehicle, authorities reported.

During an interview, the younger Juarez reportedly said his father owed him $5,000, so he showed up to the home to take his vehicle. The suspect said he became upset when his dad told him to leave, and he said he went inside the home to “finish the job,” per the affidavit. The suspect also reportedly said he knew the elder Juarez had a history of heart attacks and was in poor health. He had no remorse for his actions, he allegedly added.

Juarez Jr. reportedly made similar statements after an alleged assault caused the victim to have a heart attack in 2020.
