A tragic incident has unfolded in Mississippi, where a woman is now facing drug-related charges following the drowning deaths of her two young children in a swimming pool. Authorities have hinted that “additional charges are pending.”
The Gautier Police Department reported that they responded to a call on Monday afternoon at a residence, where they discovered the children “unresponsive near a swimming pool.” Despite the efforts of first responders who immediately initiated life-saving procedures, the children were transported to Ocean Springs Hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.
Amber Goldman, aged 36, has been arrested and is facing charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police reports.
Chief of Police David Bever expressed the community’s grief, stating, “This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”
According to WLOX, the victims were two young boys, aged 2 and 5. The coroner confirmed that the cause of death for both was drowning.
Police did not provide any additional information, including how the brothers ended up in the pool, but said the investigation is “ongoing.”
According to jail records, Goldman is being held on a $2,500 bond.
