Police seeking the remains of a 16-year-old girl murdered in 1990 will begin a two-day search of the Nambucca River in northern New South Wales this morning.

In the small town of Bowraville, the mystery surrounding Colleen Walker-Craig’s disappearance has lingered for over three decades. The young woman was last seen by her family sometime between September 13 and September 15, 1990. The days that followed were marked by growing concern and tragedy.

After reporting her missing, Colleen’s family faced a grim discovery: her clothes, weighed down, were found in the Nambucca River. Despite extensive searches, her body was never recovered. In the absence of a body, the state coroner concluded that Colleen had died under suspicious circumstances, deeming it highly probable that she was murdered.

In a renewed effort to uncover the truth, investigators are turning their attention once more to the Nambucca River. This latest search focuses on two critical areas, with today’s efforts concentrated beneath Wilson Bridge in Macksville. The hope is that this investigation will yield new evidence and bring a measure of closure to Colleen’s family after so many years of uncertainty.

The new search will focus on two key sections of the Nambucca River.
