GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a disturbing incident, 24-year-old Sebastian Emmanuel Vargas was taken into custody on charges of domestic aggravated battery following allegations that he stabbed his girlfriend.

Authorities from the Gainesville Police Department, alongside emergency medical services, were called to an apartment near the 1100 block of SW 6th Street around 3:40 a.m. on September 30. The victim reported that after she expressed her intention to end the relationship, Vargas allegedly threw her to the ground and stabbed her in the chest. Officers noted that the victim had sustained a significant laceration, measuring 2-3 inches, on her torso.

Following the attack, the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical care. Vargas, however, managed to escape before the police arrived, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant on October 9.

Vargas now faces charges of domestic aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon. While he has no previous criminal convictions, he is wanted on an outstanding felony arson warrant from Suwannee County. Judge Adam Lee has ordered him to be held without bail pending a state motion hearing to decide if he should remain in custody until trial. If the motion is denied, bail will be determined at that hearing.
