Meghan Markle recently opened up about the charming routines she and Prince Harry have established with their children at home.

In a conversation with her close friend, Courtney Adamo, at the Godmothers Bookstore in Montecito, California, Markle shared, “The first thing I do in the morning is turn on the music throughout the house.” This ritual, she noted on Wednesday, sets a joyful tone for the day.

The Duchess of Sussex also revealed that she brings a portable speaker and a scented candle whenever she travels, ensuring she can play music and cultivate a welcoming atmosphere wherever she goes.

“I always carry a candle with me,” Markle, 44, mentioned. “I am very sensitive to fragrances, and for me, they are deeply tied to the feeling of home.”

Markle’s discussion with Adamo, a lifestyle blogger, was part of the promotional activities for Adamo’s latest book, “The Family Home: Inspiring Ideas For A Home Filled With Joy.”

She shared that one tip from the book she uses with her kids — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — is the “rose and thorn” ritual, to elicit more than a “yes-or-no” response to a question.

“Our daughter, she’s four and she’s a very strong personality and she’s incredible,” Markle gushed. “And now she’s in this moment where I say, ‘What’s your rose and your thorn?’ And she goes, ‘My day was just a blast.’”

Another ritual she and Prince Harry share with their children is the “healing blanket,” which was a gift from the bookstore’s co-founder, Victoria Jackson.

When one of the children isn’t feeling well, they reach out for the “healing blanket” to comfort them.

Markle first met Adamo in college, where they were in the same sorority at Northwestern University.

The “Suits” alum shared that she and Adamo were supposed to fly back to Chicago from Los Angeles on 9/11.

“So the two of us ended up driving 30 hours over three days. 10 hours a day. From Los Angeles to Chicago together at one of the most fragile, tender times in this country,” she said, noting that the journey made her realize the importance of “community.”

After the talk, a reception was held on the bookstore’s patio, where Markle served Sauvignon Blanc from her wine line, As Ever.
