DALTON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — A tragic accident claimed the life of a man from Tuscola when his vehicle collided with an anhydrous ammonia tank near Dalton City on Thursday evening. Fortunately, the tank remained intact, preventing any ammonia leakage.

According to Lieutenant Scott Flannery, at around 7 p.m. on October 23, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an incident on 85th Street near Gosnell Road, just north of Dalton City. Responding deputies discovered that a tractor, heading south on 85th Street, was pulling an applicator filled with anhydrous ammonia.

Flannery explained that the tractor’s applicator was extended into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a northbound sedan.
