Six years have passed since Leslie Jones exited the cast of Saturday Night Live, and it’s been five years since her Netflix special, Time Machine. Now, Jones is ready to bring fans up to speed on her current life. But if this is the next chapter, do fans need a complete understanding of the previous one to enjoy it? Not at all.

The Overview: Since her last stand-up special, Leslie Jones: Time Machine in 2020, the former SNL star has been busy. She’s hosted the MTV Movie & TV Awards—where she also snagged an award for her role in Coming 2 America—made appearances on HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death, guest-hosted a stint on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, and revived the game show Supermarket Sweep as its host.

But what about life when the cameras aren’t rolling? This hour-long segment dives into her experiences navigating the dating scene as a famous woman in her 50s.

Comparable Comedy Specials: The candidness with which she discusses her romantic life may evoke comparisons to Ali Wong’s 2024 Netflix special, Single Lady. However, unlike Wong, Jones hasn’t quite found the fairy-tale conclusion to her romantic dreams. Her delivery, particularly her pauses and audience engagement before a punchline, is reminiscent of the legendary Sam Kinison.

Standout Jokes: Fame hasn’t changed Jones’s down-to-earth demeanor. She jokes about her casual approach to fame, stating she’s unfazed by paparazzi even in her pajamas: “You’re not going to stop me. F- you TMZ.”

Memorable Jokes: Jones might be famous now, but that’s not about to stop her from acting how she always has, even if that means wearing her pajamas to the corner store: “You’re not going to stop me. F- you TMZ.”

One thing has changed, though: She has white friends now. The kind of friends who believe in spiritual mediums who can draw your soulmate for you, for only $29.99! Sounds like a scam to Jones, but you better believe she’ll still pay to see what her soulmate looks like, even if it turns out suspiciously like someone the medium probably sees all the time on the TV.

This all serves as an entry point into Jones recounting her unsuccessful lifelong search for her actual soulmate, how her father discouraged her not only because of her size, but also because of how he perhaps hoped to profit off of her size through athletics. You’ll find out which guy have her “that dick courage,” which one that “crack your back dick,” which one she stalked, which one she called her “blood pressure medicine guy,” which one still lived with his mother, and some guys so wild she can only respond preemptively by asking: “Don’t judge me. I was going through something.”

She gets quite graphic and physical in detailing the, ahem, looks of some of her liaisons. And even though she hasn’t found the right guy just yet, she’s not about to go looking for him on the dating apps, which she suggests should all be combined into one app called What’s Left.

And in a complete vibe shift, Jones lets us know just what she wants to see for her funeral, since she’s famous enough to warrant some custom requests. Let’s just say Russell Crowe, Doja Cat, Snoop Dogg, and “Jason Mimosas” are all involved in paying tribute to her when she’s gone.

Our Take: Her new hour is called Life: Part 2, but it’s more like Sex Life: Parts 1-???.

Not that that’s a bad thing. Even if she’s sporting a T-shirt emblazoned with an open heart and the words HEART BREAKER in all caps.

The second part of life does factor heavily into her material, though, as she reflects on where she’s at emotionally, financially and physically at 57. “I feel blessed,” she says, wondering if younger generations can say the same. “Y’all not going to make it 57.” Why’s that? “You’re so smart you’re stupid,” Jones says of Gens Z and Alpha, before adding: “It’s our fault. We raised you like that.”

She can make it light by citing the hot playground slide as a prime example of life’s lesson-teachers that today’s kids might lack.

But her focus is mostly inward, now at a point post-SNL where she can appreciate that fame and fortune didn’t find its way to her until her mid 40s. She jokes “I would’ve burned through Hollywood” if she’d become famous in her 20s or 30s, going so far as to suggest she’d have had sex willingly with all of the infamous men, Weinstein, Cosby, and Epstein included! “You think I haven’t f—ed worse than Harvey Weinstein?” she argues. “And you know what? I definitely woulda testified.”

Our Call: STREAM IT. As much fun as it might be to witness her dream funeral, let’s hope we have to wait a long time before Jones leaves us, or even leaves the stage.
