As the Virginia gubernatorial race heats up, former Representative Abigail Spanberger is making a final push with a Saturday ad that underscores her lifelong dedication to public service.

“Service is a tradition in Virginia that runs in the family,” the Democratic candidate says in her final ad

“Public service is a family tradition for me,” Spanberger narrates in the ad. “With a mother who was a nurse and a father in federal law enforcement, I followed their path—tackling drug cartels, bringing child abusers to justice, and confronting terrorists during my tenure at the CIA.”

Spanberger is currently leading her Republican rival, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, by a comfortable margin. A recent poll shows the former House Democrat ahead by 7 percentage points.

According to a Virginia Commonwealth University survey, the predominant concerns for voters are the rising cost of living, immigration, and women’s reproductive rights.

Abortion rights have been a contentious issue throughout the campaign. Spanberger’s ad critiqued Earle-Sears for previous statements likening abortion to murder. In response, during an early October debate, Earle-Sears accused Spanberger of endorsing extreme abortion measures, claiming she supported infanticide.

Former President Obama recently endorsed Spanberger, while President Trump has said Earle-Sears “should win” but has not officially endorsed her.

In Saturday’s ad, Spanberger closes by saying she’s “ready to serve again” and continue her “family’s tradition of service” in the Old Dominion State.
