EXCLUSIVE TO FOX: In Laredo, Texas, agents from ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) apprehended a father-son duo suspected of smuggling a vast cache of firearms, including rifles, magazines, and ammunition, across the border into Mexico. The operation unfolded after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers detected concealed compartments in two trailers at the U.S.-Mexico crossing.

On October 23, at the Laredo Bridge 2 Port of Entry, CBP officers halted two vehicles, each towing a box trailer, for a routine inspection.

The agents quickly identified unusual modifications within the trailer walls.

A more thorough examination uncovered secret compartments brimming with contraband: approximately 400 firearms of varying calibers, high-capacity magazines, and thousands of ammunition rounds.

Multiple tables of firearms stopped from being smuggled into the U.S.

HSI officials said the guns were headed into Mexico, where cartels fuel ongoing violence.

The drivers were identified as Emilio Ramirez-Cortez, a lawful permanent resident, and his son Edgar Ramirez-Diaz, a U.S. citizen. Both were arrested on charges of federal firearms smuggling and turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service pending an initial court appearance.
