A man has lost his life and another is hospitalized following a stabbing in Hobart’s bustling nightlife area.

Authorities responded to a call regarding an altercation between two groups at the Morrison Street car park in Salamanca late last night.

In the course of the confrontation, two men, aged 20 and 23, sustained stab wounds.

The younger man, aged 20, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the 23-year-old was taken to the hospital.

Fortunately, the injuries of the hospitalized individual are not considered life-threatening.

The Salamanca district in Hobart is well known as a tourist attraction in the city, with many pubs, bars and nightclubs in the area.

One 20-year-old was taken into police custody and is assisting with authorities.

The person has not been charged yet, and police say they are still searching for other people involved in the incident.

Despite this, police believe it was an isolated incident, and may have been linked to a previous incident involving a person from each group.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 131 444, or to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
