SAVANNAH, Ga. – As the week kicks off, Savannah residents can expect a shift in the weather pattern, ushering in cooler and cloudier conditions. The day will be predominantly cloudy, with temperatures peaking only in the low to mid-70s. A northeast wind will add to the chill, blowing at 10 to 15 mph and occasionally gusting up to 25 mph.

This change comes as a weather system advances from the west, poised to bring isolated showers later this afternoon and evening. These scattered showers are expected to persist overnight, leading into what could be the wettest day of the week on Monday. Residents should brace for widespread rain, a few rumbles of thunder, and continued cool, windy weather, with temperatures only reaching the upper 60s to low 70s. It’s advisable to keep a rain jacket and umbrella at the ready.

As the system progresses southward on Tuesday and Wednesday, the rain will taper off a bit, though some isolated showers may linger. The cool and breezy conditions will persist, with temperatures staying in the mid to upper 60s under mostly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead to Thursday, a cold front is expected to pass through, bringing another bout of scattered showers and brisk winds. Temperatures will remain stable in the mid to upper 60s. Following the front’s passage, cooler air will settle in for the Halloween weekend. While the sun will make a comeback, temperatures will remain on the cooler side, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 60s and nighttime lows dropping into the lower 40s.

Hurricane Melissa has strengthened and is now expected to become a major hurricane as it moves toward Jamaica, then tracks across Cuba and the Bahamas. While it may weaken slightly after crossing Cuba, it will still impact the Bahamas as a hurricane. Fortunately, the same cold front moving through our area on Thursday will help steer Melissa well offshore from the U.S. coast as it heads toward Bermuda.
