In a heartfelt gesture, the Cincinnati Bengals honored the memory of Nick Mangold, a revered former player for the New York Jets, just before their Week 8 face-off against the Jets in Cincinnati. The tribute took place with a solemn moment of silence held in the press box at Paycor Stadium.

This tribute followed the somber news that Mangold had passed away on Saturday night due to complications from kidney disease. He was only 41 years old, and his untimely death has left a significant void in the hearts of football fans and the community.

Woody Johnson, the chairman of the Jets, expressed his condolences, emphasizing that Mangold was far more than just an outstanding center. “He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football,” Johnson said. He also recalled Mangold’s off-field presence, noting his “wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty” that endeared him to the extended Jets family.

Nick Mangold was a first-round draft pick by the Jets in 2006 and dedicated 11 seasons to the team as a formidable center before hanging up his cleats in 2016. His legacy continues to inspire both his teammates and fans alike.

A former first-round pick by the Jets in 2006, Mangold played 11 seasons as a center before retiring in 2016.

Mangold is survived by his wife, Jenny, and their four children.

In the weeks before his passing, Mangold revealed he needed a new kidney and was seeking a donor.

“In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease,” he wrote in a social media statement this month. “After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant. I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time.”

The Jets entered Sunday’s game against the Bengals at 0-7.
