A night meant for celebration quickly turned into a scene of chaos and sorrow at a Pennsylvania university, where a shooting during a homecoming event left one person dead and several others injured. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the tragic incident that unfolded at Lincoln University.

The joyful spirit of reunion was abruptly interrupted on Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. when gunshots rang out at the Lincoln University International Cultural Center (ICC), a location bustling with students and alumni gathered for the homecoming festivities, as reported by Fox 5.

During a press briefing, Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe and Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee confirmed the grim toll: one fatality and six people suffering from gunshot wounds. The authorities also revealed that in the chaos that followed, several attendees sustained injuries while trying to flee the scene.

Officials have described the ICC vicinity as an expansive and intricate crime scene, complicating the investigative process. In response to the shooting, the university immediately enacted a campus lockdown to ensure the safety of students and faculty, while law enforcement officers moved swiftly to secure the area.

In the immediate aftermath, the university instituted a campus lockdown to ensure safety while officers secured the area.

Although security measures have been relaxed, the investigation, which involves the District Attorney’s Office, Lincoln University Police, and Pennsylvania State Police, is ongoing, and access to parts of the campus remains restricted by police checkpoints.

No information has been released regarding a possible suspect or motive; however, federal, state and local law enforcement are conducting a rigorous investigation.

Students and staff are being asked to avoid the area around the International Cultural Center.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chester County District Attorney’s Office or Lincoln University Police.
