The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) arrived at the site around 9 p.m. following the collision.

Authorities reported that the driver was heading west on Blue Jay Road when his car veered to the right, crossing Finch Lane before hitting the pole.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Jacob Lane, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The ECSO’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has launched an investigation into the accident. Currently, the reason behind Lane’s departure from the road remains unclear.
