WAYNESBORO, Ga. — An important event in the race for Georgia’s governorship is set to take place in Waynesboro as a major candidate forum is organized to bring political discourse to the local community.

The forum, orchestrated by Georgia One, an environmental nonprofit, is dedicated to advocating for the reduction of nuclear harm, environmental conservation, and promoting climate social justice within the Central Savannah River Area. Through its “We Count” initiative, Georgia One aims to bolster civic participation by hosting town halls and forums that inform the electorate.

Rennitta Johnson, the Community Engagement Director, emphasizes the significance of voter education for residents at all levels of government elections. “Waynesboro boasts a robust voter base, and we are committed to ensuring our community is well-informed to make sound decisions at the polls,” she stated.

This nonpartisan forum will feature five gubernatorial candidates, including two from the Democratic Party, two from the Republican Party, and one whose participation is yet to be confirmed. Attendees will have the chance to pose questions and interact directly with those vying for the state’s highest office.

Open to all and free of charge, the forum will occur on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Philip Grove Baptist Church, located at 255 Lovers Lane in Waynesboro, Georgia.
