In SUGAR LAND, Texas, former NFL star Adrian Peterson has been detained in a suburban area near Houston on allegations of driving under the influence and illegal weapon possession, according to official records.

Television station KHOU in Houston reported that Peterson was apprehended in Sugar Land on Sunday. This marks his second arrest for driving while intoxicated within a span of seven months for the NFL’s 2012 Most Valuable Player and a three-time leader in rushing yards.

Now 40, Peterson has deep roots in Texas, having been a high school football standout in East Texas. He has since settled in the Houston region. His collegiate career at Oklahoma preceded a decade-long tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, who selected him as the seventh overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Earlier this year, in April, Peterson was taken into custody in Minneapolis on suspicion of driving under the influence following an appearance at an NFL draft event for Minnesota Vikings supporters.

The Minnesota incident involved a traffic stop for speeding, which led to his arrest. Currently, there are no additional details about his recent arrest in Texas, and no legal representation has been disclosed for him at this time.

Peterson is one of nine running backs to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. He had 2,097 yards for the Vikings in his MVP season of 2012 and finished with 14,918 yards and 120 touchdowns over 15 seasons. He played for six teams during his final five seasons.
