The narrative surrounding the Charlie Kirk shooting continues to unravel after video footage and eyewitness analysis directly contradicted claims made by Pastor Rob McCoy, father of Turning Point USA chief of staff Mikey McCoy.
In the wake of a tragic shooting incident, an impassioned statement was made by McCoy, who shared a vivid account of his son’s actions. “The moment Charlie was shot, Mikey McCoy called me, saying, ‘Dad, Charlie’s been shot in the neck, please call every pastor and pray.’ He was composed, giving directions, with blood all over him,” McCoy recounted. This portrayal aimed to present his son as both a witness and a hero, responding swiftly amidst the turmoil.
However, the narrative took a twist when Sam Parker brought new insights to light on X. He unveiled pivotal video evidence that contradicted McCoy’s story. According to Parker, the footage showed Mikey McCoy neither aiding Kirk nor appearing with any blood on him. Parker remarked, “Mikey McCoy didn’t dial a number after Charlie was shot. What we see is him lifting the phone to his ear and talking—curious behavior indeed.”
The video, now widely viewed, reveals Mikey maintaining a calm demeanor. He is seen turning away while Kirk collapses, without any direct engagement with the unfolding scene. This evidence has sparked widespread skepticism regarding the account shared by the McCoy family, raising serious questions about its accuracy.
Who do you think is lying? Or perhaps, the call was to neither? 🤔 https://t.co/lawoXATo4V pic.twitter.com/HDbOJoPBpG
Both Carroll and Parker cast doubt on McCoy’s credibility, pointing to the video evidence of Mikey in a spotless white shirt as he walks away, phone in hand. Carroll, challenging the depiction of Mikey’s supposed heroism, stated, “I see no blood on anyone. The only chance to be covered in blood was when he was walking away, still on the phone.”
Adding further complexity, Rob McCoy and Kirk’s wife, Erika, have both asserted that Mikey contacted them immediately after the shooting. Carroll poses a critical question, “So, was he really on the phone with you? That seems awfully quick. And how did he identify a neck wound so rapidly, given he was behind Kirk and turned away almost instantly?”
In the video, Parker highlights that Mikey seems calm, quickly turning and walking away as Kirk collapses, never directly interacting with the scene. The footage—now viewed by tens of thousands—raised alarming questions about the official account promoted by the McCoy family.

Ian Carroll, who conducted a thorough breakdown on YouTube, further detailed inconsistencies in Mikey’s actions. Carroll analyzed frame-by-frame movement, stating, “Shot rings out and you can see that Mikey’s left hand goes up kind of like it’s going to his ear to cover his ear. And his right hand is holding his phone…no dial motion is detected. Right? It’s the phone is in his arms and it’s immediately going up towards his ear.” Carroll continues, “He turns around and Charlie has still not fallen over. You’re about to see Charlie fall through the frame right here, but he’s already turned around and walking away. And there’s Charlie. Mikey’s out of line of sight and he’s already on the phone.”
Both Carroll and Parker questioned McCoy’s credibility as video evidence shows Mikey wearing a clean white shirt—no blood present—as he walks away with his phone. Carroll, referencing McCoy’s insistence on his son’s heroic actions, was direct: “I don’t see any blood all over anyone. And I’m pretty sure that the only opportunity to get blood all over him was just loaded into the car while he was walking away on the phone.”
Adding to the confusion, both Rob McCoy and Kirk’s wife Erika have publicly claimed that Mikey called them at the exact moment Kirk was shot. Carroll asks, “So, was he on the phone with you? Because that seems pretty quick. And it’s hard to say he even saw that it was a shot in the neck because he was behind him. He turned around within a second.”
Social media posts from additional investigators and eyewitnesses furthered the scrutiny. James Li’s post shows stitched footage with Mikey never visibly contacting Kirk post-shooting. MJTruthUltra’s tweet highlights other inconsistencies in public statements by TPUSA leadership regarding the timeline and communications.
The controversy has rippled through conservative circles, with many asking why Pastor Rob McCoy would make statements so clearly refuted by public evidence. As Parker noted in a follow-up, “Why did Rob McCoy lie about Mikey having Charlie’s blood all over him?”
For now, video shows Mikey’s immediate reaction was to calmly walk away talking on a phone, not to aid his colleague or become covered in blood. The discrepancy between eyewitness video and the official account remains glaring—and has placed the McCoy narrative under unprecedented public challenge.
