A Taylorville resident has been sentenced to a six-year prison term following a Christmas Day incident where he crashed into a stationary vehicle and attempted to evade law enforcement.
The incident, originally reported by WCIA, unfolded on December 25, 2024, when Taylorville Police officers initiated a traffic stop. However, the driver chose to flee, subsequently losing control and colliding with a street sign and a parked car.
According to police accounts, the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, leaving behind one of his shoes. Officers later apprehended the suspect, who was identified as 35-year-old Aaron Steele, notably wearing only a single shoe at the time of his arrest.
Steele faced several charges, including fleeing a police officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, and armed violence. Initially, he was released under pretrial conditions from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
