Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s debut public outing was a masterclass in messaging, aimed at both fans and former flames, according to a leading body language specialist.

Following the revelation of their romance through sultry yacht photos earlier this month, the media-savvy duo opted for a sophisticated Parisian date to mark Perry’s 41st birthday over the weekend.

Judi James, a body language expert, shared with the Mail that the couple engaged in an intriguing ‘ritual’ reminiscent of a ‘wedding day’ scenario.

“The non-verbal cues from Katy and Justin suggest they are positioning themselves as a high-status power couple with an emphasis on elegance and modesty,” explained James.

She added, “Their slow, graceful walk and synchronized demeanor as they appeared in the doorway projected an aura of uniqueness.”

‘Katy even stopped to accept a long-stem rose in the exact shade of red as her simple but stunning dress from a waiting fan, who seemed equally invested in the pitch-perfect choreography,’ she added.

But it wasn’t just fans the new couple were performing for — James noted they were sending a very deliberate message to their exes.

Perry — who only officially split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom less than a month ago — appeared to be signaling ‘she had found the one,’ said James.

The singer’s body language indicates she’s found ‘a man of previous global power and connections who can open up a whole new world outside of showbiz for Katy,’ James added.

Meanwhile, Trudeau, 53 — who separated from wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023 after 18 years of marriage — gave a final glance at the cameras after Katy was inside the car.

His closed-lip, borderline smug smile suggesting he was not just quietly enjoying the attention but also proud to be showing off their relationship publicly. 

In terms of who’s calling the shots in the relationship, James said: ‘Justin’s gentlemanly displays do tend to be about leading, steering and even offering some reassurance, making it look as though he might be slightly dominant.’

The former Canadian PM also provided his partner with a comforting sign of his presence during the outing, James noted.

‘We can see Katy glance at Justin just as they reach the threshold as though to say “Here we go” and we can also see Justin take Katy’s hand in his, pulling the clasp towards his own body as though offering one final note of reassurance and commitment,’ she told the Mail.

Trudeau even managed to imbue affection into the way he guided Perry towards their awaiting car.  

‘Justin Trudeau is like a colander of charm, he oozes the stuff without even trying, and his hand gestures here are seamless and cool as he gently ushers Katy into their car via a series of very smooth and affectionate touches,’ James continued.

The couple were also exhibiting an ‘effortless-looking synchronicity’ that demonstrated their compatibility, James said. 

‘The couple appear, in this brief but telling glimpse, to have the kind of effortless-looking synchronicity that implies a meeting of minds as well as bodies. This look is unashamedly romantic, from the classic red dress and rose to the matching, raised and rounded cheek smiles that both are sporting.’

Perry and Trudeau first sparked dating rumors in July when they were spotted on a dinner date together in Montreal.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail published exclusive photos of the former politician and the entertainer getting very cozy on a yacht. 

The sighting comes just one day after sources told Us Weekly that Perry is ‘really into’ her connection with Justin.

‘Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,’ the insider shared. ‘She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.’

The insider added: ‘Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.’  

They became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019 after striking up a romance in 2016 and welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom, in 2020. 

Bloom is also dad to 14-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

Their split was finally confirmed in July following swirling rumors about their relationship status.  

Representatives for Katy and Orlando told the Daily Mail that ‘Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.

‘They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.’

And a source told Us Weekly over the summer, ‘Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,’ while adding that the separation was not ‘contentious’.

The Woman’s World singer was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.

Justin announced his separation from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau after 18 years of marriage in 2023. The exes share three kids.

He was the prime minister of Canada from 2015 to March 2025.
