In a surprising twist, just weeks after Chili’s decided to remove its iconic skillet queso from the menu, the restaurant hinted at a comeback with a simple message: “Justice is coming.”

Following this teaser, the Dallas-headquartered restaurant confirmed the beloved skillet queso would indeed make a return.

On Monday, Chili’s took to the social media platform X to declare, “OKAY WE HEAR YOU and we hate when y’all are mad at us. We’re working on bringing Skillet Queso back to Chili’s very soon. Stay tuned for a date.”

The same announcement appeared on Instagram, accompanied by an image of the skillet queso and the playful caption, “We tried to killet, but you love the skillet.”

Earlier, on October 2, Chili’s had announced it would replace its Beef Skillet Queso and White Queso with a Southwestern Queso, a decision made after discovering these items contributed to less than 1% of sales. The restaurant assured fans that its chips and salsa would remain unchanged.

“Guests are clearly looking for a better queso from Chili’s,” the company said in a news release when announcing the change. “The grill and bar recognized it was time to invest in this area and set out to develop the best queso to enjoy alongside its fan-favorite chips and salsa.”

Chili’s said it spent two years developing its new queso and came up with the Southwestern Queso, which contains a blend of American and cheddar cheeses, fire-roasted green chilies, sweet onions and a hint of lime.

The company said in the release that 70% of people who tried both dips preferred the Southwestern Queso over the skillet quesos.

Skillet quesos have been on Chili’s menus since the 1990s, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The announcement brought backlash from fans, with some saying they would never step foot in a Chili’s again if the skillet queso went away.

Chili’s did not give an exact date for the re-release of the skillet queso but told one X follower it would return before the holidays.
