Rappeller dies in Zion National Park's Pine Creek Canyon

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah—Tragedy struck at Zion National Park on Sunday afternoon when a 58-year-old man lost his life during the last rappel of Pine Creek Canyon.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported that at around 12:10 p.m., the National Park Service (NPS) law enforcement received a 911 text alert regarding a canyoneering accident involving a visitor. The incident occurred at the final rappel section of the canyon.

As emergency responders were en route, bystanders initiated CPR on the man. The NPS first responders faced challenging terrain, but they managed to reach the individual by approximately 1:30 p.m.
