Michelle Obama reveals she purposefully avoids talking to Barack

Michelle Obama has shared insights into her date night rituals with former President Barack Obama, revealing a unique strategy: they refrain from talking throughout the day to ensure they have plenty to discuss during their evening together.

The 61-year-old author and podcast host recently marked her 33rd wedding anniversary with Barack Obama.

In light of this occasion, Michelle discussed their approach to spending meaningful time as a couple during an interview with People, where she mentioned their preference for simple, home-cooked dinners.

Interestingly, the former first lady admitted she momentarily forgot how long they have been married and revealed their intentional silence strategy to keep their date nights engaging.

“We’ve been married 32, 33 years… I always forget. Sorry, honey,” she playfully remarked.

Shedding light on how they keep their romance alive, Michelle said that they prefer to keep things low-key and casual – and bookmark conversations to have later.

‘When we’re both happy about date night, we’re at home. We are not getting dressed. We just have a nice dinner, candles lit, music, we talk,’ Michelle continued.

‘We don’t talk for the whole day, because we’re in the house together all day, right? We work from home.

‘So, when we are going to have a really special night, it’s like, “Don’t talk to me. Save it for dinner.”

‘He’ll be like, “Did you talk to the girls?” “I did, but we’re not going to talk about it until date night.”‘

When the couple do decide to step out for a special evening together, they usually either go for dinner or to the cinema – but never both, Michelle shared.

Michelle added: ‘But sometimes we go out for dinners in D.C. or wherever. I am too old, I can’t do dinner and a movie. I will fall asleep in the movie. So it’s like, “Let’s pick one.”‘

Michelle and Barack, 64, tied the knot in 1992 and have been married for 33 years.

Together, they share two daughters, Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24, who live in Los Angeles.

The couple, whose marriage has been plagued with divorce rumors recently, took to social media to profess their love for each other on their wedding anniversary at the beginning of the month.

The couple delighted in voicing their adoration for one another on their special day, uploading the same adorable selfie to Instagram in which they exuded happiness as they posed cheek to cheek.

In her caption, Michelle said: ‘We’ve been on quite the journey over the last 33 years – and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said ‘I do.’

‘Happy anniversary, @BarackObama! I’m so lucky to go through life with you.’

Meanwhile, Barack praised his wife’s ‘strength’ and ‘grace.’

‘The best decision I ever made was marrying you, @MichelleObama,’ he penned.

‘For 33 years, I’ve admired your strength, grace, and determination – and the fact that you look so good doing it all. Happy anniversary!’

Over the past few months, Michelle and Barack have faced speculation about their marriage status.

The rumor mill swirled following Michelle’s decision to skip both Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration – with Michelle later insisting they were decisions she made for herself.

Her absence at the high-profile political events stoked divorce rumors, as did former President Obama’s admission in April that he was in a ‘deep deficit’ with his wife.

In July, they addressed reports of a rift.

‘There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man,’ Michelle said passionately about Barack.

She continued: ‘And we’ve had some really hard times. So, we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.’
