A Melbourne grandmother recounted a terrifying confrontation with armed intruders who broke into her home. Pat, aged 76, shared the harrowing details of the ordeal during an interview with Today, describing the early Monday morning incident at her residence in the southeastern part of the city.

Pat and her daughter were abruptly awakened by the sound of two men forcing their way through the dead-bolted back door. As she entered the lounge room, she was met with a chilling sight—one of the intruders had his hands on her car keys.

“I came into the lounge room, switched on the light, completely unaware of what I might find,” Pat recalled. “He was there, standing just behind or beside me.”

The intruder, brandishing a knife with a menacing blade, was met with Pat’s steely determination. “He had his arm raised, knife in hand,” she said. “I looked at him and firmly demanded, ‘No. Give me the keys.'”

“He had his arm up and he had a knife with a blade about. And I said, no. Give me the keys.

“I said, get out of my house, get out of my house.”

Pat’s daughter, Sharon, 54, then appeared nearby as the home invaders decided to flee.

“I just screamed. I didn’t say anything, I just screamed at the top of my voice and he just ran out the door, too.”

Pat said one of the intruders held a knife in the air and demanded her car keys.

The women were not physically injured during the break-in.

Police were on scene within minutes.

A getaway vehicle, described as a white 4WD, had been for the offenders near the scene, according to police.

Police continue to review CCTV footage of the Brighton East incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
