HOUSTON — A tragic incident in 2023 led to a woman receiving a conviction and sentencing after she fatally struck a man who was on a first date in Houston.

On the previous Thursday, the jury concluded that Kristina Chambers was guilty of manslaughter.

Authorities reported that Chambers was intoxicated and driving her Porsche at high speeds when she collided with Joseph McMullins. McMullins had just exited Voodoo Donuts with his date after their initial outing.

The collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. on a Wednesday along Westheimer, near Waugh, in the Montrose area.

Court documents revealed that Chambers’ blood alcohol content was four times above the legal threshold during the accident.

The sentencing phase followed on Monday, Oct. 27, where 35-year-old Chambers learned how long she will spend in prison.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the full sentence of 11 years and 14 days was because the victim’s birthday was November 14.

The crash was captured on surveillance cameras, shocking the public and playing a critical role in the trial, according to McMullin’s family attorney.

“It was an overwhelming amount of evidence that Ms. Chambers was drinking, high, being reckless, driving down an urban street,” said Rand Nolen, who is representing the McMullin family on a separate, civil case against Chambers.

During the trial, the defense argued that Chambers’ name-brand heels caused the crash, calling it an accident.

Prosecutors depicted Chambers as a wealthy woman who wanted to show off her new car to friends who were inside the vehicle at the time, before allegedly visiting several bars the night of the crash.

Chambers was facing anywhere from two to 20 years behind bars.
