A 37-year-old woman from New York faces several years in prison after a violent altercation with her father nearly turned deadly. Kimberly Mann was sentenced by an Orange County judge to seven years in a state penitentiary for repeatedly stabbing her father during a heated dispute over a clogged toilet at their residence. Authorities disclosed the sentencing last week.

In addition to her prison term, Mann will undergo five years of supervised release upon completing her sentence.

As part of a plea deal, Mann confessed to first-degree assault, acknowledging that she “intentionally inflicted serious physical injury” on her father using “a dangerous instrument.”

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office detailed the incident in a press statement. The altercation erupted on August 14, 2024, at the family home in Otisville, New York, approximately 75 miles northwest of New York City. The dispute began when Mann argued with her mother over the plumbing issue.

Prosecutors reported that when Mann’s father attempted to intervene in the argument, Mann pulled a concealed knife from her clothing and stabbed him multiple times in the chest. The attack left him with life-threatening injuries, including collapsed lungs and significant blood loss.

Officers with the Mount Hope Police Department responded to the address, where they found Mann “sitting outside smoking a cigarette.” She told the officers that “her father was probably dying inside.”

Emergency medical personnel located the victim inside and rendered lifesaving aid as he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he survived his numerous wounds.

In a statement, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said the defendant’s “horrifying” actions amounted to a “nightmare.”

“Domestic violence is insidious and, as seen in this case, can be terrifyingly violent,” he said. “Cases such as this one are incredibly challenging, and while the defendant’s acceptance of responsibility saved the family from the trauma of recounting the incident at trial, the significant prison sentence imposed is necessary to underscore the seriousness of the defendant’s actions.”

Hoovler also thanked the Town of Mount Hope Police Department and the New York State Police for their efforts in the investigation and proceedings that led to Mann’s conviction.

Jail records showed that Mann remained in custody at the Orange County Jail as of Monday afternoon, the Times Union reported.
