Moment Prince Harry puts on cringeworthy American accent

Prince Harry found himself both amused and a bit embarrassed after facing some light-hearted ribbing about his royal history and current life in the United States during a guest appearance on Hasan Minhaj’s comedic show.

The Duke of Sussex appeared on the latest episode of “Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know,” where the two delved into a variety of topics, including mental health, fatherhood, and Harry’s adaptation to American culture.

In a humorous moment, Minhaj drew attention to a section of Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” where Harry shared that his father, then-Prince Charles, provided him with an “official clothing allowance” strictly for formal attire.

Minhaj read from the book, pointing out, “For my everyday casual looks, I’d shop at T.K. Maxx, the discount retailer.”

He added with a chuckle, “I was particularly fond of their annual sale, packed with items from Gap or J.Crew, things that had just become out of season or had minor defects.”

The comedian then jokingly sympathised with him, quipping: ‘Bro, I’m sorry you had to go through that.’

Harry, grinning, replied: ‘You know what, it was hard, it was really hard. TK Maxx is now a special place in my memory.’

The duke also showed off his sense of humour when Minhaj challenged him to show just how ‘American’ he’s become, prompting Harry to demonstrate a playful ‘yeehaw!’ and try out an American accent.

He comically recited lines like ‘I ordered breadsticks with ranch dressing at Applebee’s’ and ‘do you like my cybertruck?’

Harry admitted that the ‘most American’ thing he does is surf, but laughed that he has ‘chicken legs’ and prefers not to wear shorts.

At one point, the prince even joked that he would ‘knight’ Minhaj if there happened to be a sword handy – much to the delight of the live audience.

Beyond the jokes, the conversation turned serious as Harry discussed his concerns about social media and its impact on young men.

He said: ‘Social media is taking young men and young boys into very dark places, which should concern all of us.’

The 41-year-old revealed that he and Meghan have ‘had our fair share of beatings on social media’ and said the couple’s move to California had given them a chance to focus on causes they truly cared about.

‘When we moved to America, we could focus on things really aligned to our passions – and the tech industry wasn’t one of those,’ Harry said.

‘But what we wanted to understand was the root cause of so much suffering and pain around the world. If we can shine a light on that, we can help people who are trying to change the system.’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have long been outspoken about the dangers of online platforms, both for adults and children.

They are also known for fiercely protecting the privacy of their own kids, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, rarely showing their faces in public.

But earlier this month, Meghan delighted fans by sharing a Halloween-themed video on Instagram showing the family enjoying a day out at a pumpkin patch before heading home to carve decorations.

Royal watchers were quick to notice a fleeting glimpse of Archie and Lilibet’s faces – the first in three years – as the Sussexes enjoyed some rare downtime together.
