ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. — Queen Quet, the Chieftess of the Gullah Geechee Nation, has been distinguished with the prestigious Excellence in Education award. This accolade is a tribute to her significant contributions to literacy, mentoring, and educational equity, which have left a lasting impact on her community.

The award was presented by Artika R. Tyner, the visionary founder and CEO of Planting People Growing Justice. Tyner emphasized the transformative power of storytelling and education, stating, “We believe that community change begins with a story, a book, and a child’s imagination. Honoring Queen Quet with this award celebrates her lifelong dedication to culture, learning, and collective liberation.”

Queen Quet, a native of St. Helena, has been a pivotal figure in advancing education and youth development within the Gullah Geechee community. Her efforts have been instrumental in helping young people connect with their heritage and envision a brighter future.
