CHICAGO – An appellate court in Illinois has temporarily halted an order from U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis that required daily in-person updates from U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino regarding federal activities.

Judge Ellis mandated the updates on Tuesday during a one-hour session where Bovino was questioned about the methods employed by federal officials in Operation Midway Blitz. According to federal insiders, Bovino arrived early at the federal courthouse on Wednesday for his scheduled meeting with Judge Ellis, only to find the building was under lockdown due to a reported bomb threat.

A suspicious device was allegedly discovered, prompting a lockdown with Bovino and his team inside. Sources mentioned that Judge Ellis instructed Bovino to use the basement entrance instead of the main street access. Chicago Police reported that they responded to the courthouse around 3:30 p.m. following a report of a dubious package.

The package was eventually deemed harmless, and authorities declared the area secure. For additional details, Chicago Police have referred inquiries to the FBI.
