“Apologizing is never easy; it’s a sign of personal growth, and growth often comes with its challenges,” Governor Chris Dawson expressed to the audience.
Governor Dawson arrived at the sacred site, emphasizing his peaceful intentions by stating he came “on foot, unarmed, to walk softly.”
He characterized the apology as a crucial act of truth-telling, marking a significant step toward healing and rebuilding trust.

To mark the occasion, the Governor presented the community with a sapling from an olive tree planted at Government House in 1835 by Stirling.
“This is not the end – it’s the start of a new chapter of working together to create a memorial for our people,” Ms Kearing said.
