SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Beach High School football squad stands on the brink of a playoff appearance that has eluded them since 2011.

While numerous outcomes remain possible, their chances look promising. According to the latest Maxwell projections, Beach is anticipated to enter the playoffs as the 22nd seed, which would set them up against the 11th seed, Peach County. Currently, Beach is in a tight race with Southeast Bulloch and Long County, all vying for the coveted fourth spot in the region.

Despite the buzz surrounding playoff possibilities, Beach’s head coach, Michael Thompson, is steering clear of the speculation. He’s keeping his team’s focus laser-sharp on their impending matchup with Southeast Bulloch. On Wednesday, the team discussed the significance of securing a playoff berth.

“Our players have really tightened their focus and absorbed some crucial lessons,” Thompson remarked. “They realize they hold the reins to their destiny, and Friday night’s game will be pivotal for us.”

“These guys have really buckled down and took in some key points,” Thompson said. “And they understand that they control their journey and Friday night is going to be a real, real key game for us.”

“My job is like, okay, I’m a senior,” running back and wide receiver Kejuan Fergurson said. “I want to go to the playoffs, of course. But what I really want to do is make other little kids want to say, ‘Oh, I want to go to Beach and play football.’”

Quarterback Jayvion Williams said, “The ability to sit there and think Beach can make the playoffs. It’s really a lot to think about this week. We have a lot on the line this week.”

Beach travels to Brooklet to play Southeast Bulloch on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:30 p.m.
