In a significant development concerning the heist of crown jewels from the Louvre Museum, authorities have apprehended five additional suspects. Despite these arrests, the jewels have not yet been recovered, according to an announcement made by the Paris prosecutor on Thursday.

These individuals were taken into custody late Wednesday night in the city of Paris and its surrounding areas, as stated by Prosecutor Laure Beccuau in an interview with RTL radio. Further specifics about the detainees, including their identities, remain undisclosed at this time.

Among the apprehended is an individual believed to be part of the four-member group responsible for the daring daylight robbery at the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery on October 19, Beccuau revealed.

Earlier in the week, authorities had already detained two other suspects connected to the heist. On Wednesday, they were formally charged with criminal conspiracy and theft as part of an organized gang.

Two other members of the team were arrested Sunday and given preliminary charges Wednesday of criminal conspiracy and theft committed by an organized gang.

Both partially admitted their involvement, according to the prosecutor.

“Searches last night and overnight did not allow us to find the goods,” Beccuau said.

It took thieves less than eight minutes to steal the jewels valued at $102 million on Oct. 19, shocking the world.

The robbers forced open a window, cut into cases with power tools and fled with eight pieces of the French crown jewels.
