An Atlanta man faces murder charges following the fatal shooting of his son outside an upscale Buckhead apartment complex early Thursday morning.
Atlanta Police reported that a woman residing at the complex dialed 911 shortly after midnight, citing a domestic altercation with her boyfriend, according to WAGA. Officers arrived at the scene and began questioning the couple. During this time, the boyfriend’s father also arrived, and he and his son proceeded to the parking lot.
Moments later, officers on the scene heard gunshots and rushed to investigate.
They discovered that 54-year-old Durante Tolliver had shot his 32-year-old son, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believe an argument between the father and son escalated, leading Tolliver to fire at least five shots at his son, as reported by WUPA.
Investigators told WSB that the girlfriend had called Tolliver to help her with the dispute with his son, who was identified as Durante Schofield.
Tolliver has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
