WASHINGTON, Oct 31 (Reuters) – The leaders from both the Republican and Democratic sides of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee have expressed their concerns regarding the Trump administration’s legal justification for operations targeting drug cartels. On Friday, they revealed that despite their request for detailed information, no response has yet been received.

Since September, U.S. military actions against suspected drug trafficking vessels have resulted in numerous fatalities in the Caribbean and Pacific regions, escalating tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela.

In a show of bipartisanship, Republican Senator Roger Wicker and Democrat Jack Reed issued a joint statement highlighting their unmet request for clarity on the administration’s anti-drug cartel strategy.

Senator Wicker, representing Mississippi, serves as the committee’s chairman, while Senator Reed, from Rhode Island, is the lead Democrat overseeing military affairs.
