He remarked that he transformed the existing 1940s art deco design into a black-and-white marble motif that he deemed fitting for the era of Abraham Lincoln.

WASHINGTON — On Friday, President Donald Trump showcased a revamped Lincoln Bathroom at the White House, revealing before-and-after images of the renovation on Truth Social.

“I have remodeled the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House,” Trump announced. “The previous design from the 1940s featured an art deco green tile style, which did not suit the Lincoln Era. Now, it boasts black and white polished Statuary marble. This choice aligns with the period of Abraham Lincoln and could even resemble the original marble!”

Earlier, Trump had shared his plans for the renovation during a White House dinner, expressing his disapproval of President Harry Truman’s 1940s design. “That style was unsuitable… art deco simply doesn’t complement the 1850s and the Civil War period,” he remarked.

This update is part of Trump’s broader renovation efforts at the White House. Recently, he faced backlash for demolishing the East Wing to build a privately funded, expansive ballroom spanning 90,000 square feet, with an estimated cost of $300 million.

Trump allowed the demolition to begin despite not yet having approval from the relevant government agencies with jurisdiction over construction on federal property.

At the start of demolition, he replied to criticism, stating that keeping the East Wing would have “hurt a very, very expensive, beautiful building” that he said presidents have wanted for years. He said “me and some friends of mine” will pay for the ballroom at no cost to taxpayers.
