In Lynwood, California, a grim discovery has led to serious charges against the family members of an 8-year-old boy. The child’s lifeless body was found stored in a cooler filled with ice in a local apartment, prompting authorities to act swiftly in seeking justice for the young victim.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has identified the boy as Isaiah H. In a disturbing turn of events, his parents and grandmother have been charged with his murder. The charges against 25-year-old Destiny Luckie Harrison, Isaiah’s mother, his 25-year-old father, Daniel Alberto Monzon, and his 46-year-old grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno, include one felony count each of murder, along with charges of torture and child abuse leading to death. Prosecutors highlighted the severity of the case, noting that the allegations include willful harm resulting in death.

Further compounding the legal repercussions, both the father and grandmother face additional charges of being accessories after the fact. This suggests involvement in attempting to cover up the tragic circumstances surrounding Isaiah’s death.

The criminal complaint paints a harrowing picture of prolonged abuse allegedly suffered by Isaiah at the hands of those charged with his care. Authorities reported that the abuse spanned an extended period, ultimately leading to Isaiah’s death in the early hours of October 24. Tragically, his body was only discovered days later, on October 28, concealed within the confines of a cooler.

According to the criminal complaint, Isaiah was allegedly abused by the three defendants “over a long period of time.” The child succumbed to his injuries early on Oct. 24 and his body was found on Oct. 28 in the cooler.

Deputies were called shortly after 8:30 p.m. local time to a Lynwood apartment building in the 3100 block of Euclid Avenue, near Santa Fe Avenue.

Authorities received a call reporting a dead child. When deputies arrived at the apartment complex to conduct a welfare check, they made the grim discovery. Authorities initially said his body was found inside a freezer.

The child’s mother, father and grandmother were arrested after the body was found, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Bail for each of the three defendants was set at $2 million. If convicted as charged, they each face 32 years to life in state prison, the D.A.’s office said.

“The horrific abuse that Isaiah endured is made even worse by the fact that, as alleged, it was at the hands of the people who were meant to love and protect him,” L.A. County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. “Our office is committed to ensuring that those responsible are held fully accountable for their actions and that justice will be secured for Isaiah.”

Three additional children, ages 16, 13 and 9 months, were also found at the scene and taken into protective custody by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
