Vice President Vance embraced the humorous side of internet culture on Friday by posting a photo where he donned a wig, mimicking a popular meme that portrays him as a grinning, exaggerated version of himself.
The image was shared in a post on his social media profile on X, showing a close-up of his face framed by curly brown hair, with eyes opened wide in a whimsical expression.
He shared his full Halloween costume in a video on Instagram. Vance opens a door and says, “Happy Halloween. And remember to say thank you.”
The video concludes with Vance spinning in a circle, enveloped in a purple filter while the iconic theme from “The Twilight Zone” plays, adding a surreal touch.
This meme, often labeled “fat JD,” surfaced after a heated discussion between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February, where Vance notably questioned Zelensky, asking if he had ever expressed gratitude.
Characterized by an exaggerated depiction with shoulder-length curls and an enlarged face, the meme has since become a humorous jab at the vice president, circulating widely online.
Ahead of Vance’s Halloween posts, conservative political commentator Benny Johnson on Thursday shared a video on Facebook hinting at what the costume could be.
“Yesterday I asked JD Vance point blank what his Halloween costume was going to be because I’ve seen the speculation online and, well, we all want this to happen,” Johnson said, right as a clipped-in photo of the meme appears.
“And JD Vance told me this,” Johnson continued. “‘Stay tuned. The internet is going to love this. The internet is going to love this.’ Ladies and gentlemen, your first meme lord vice president. Get ready.”
