A man in Melbourne’s southeastern suburb found himself in hot water after dozing off in a fast-food drive-through and subsequently failing a breathalyzer test with a reading over three times the legal limit.

Around 2:30 am, police were called to a restaurant on Cheltenham Road in Dandenong, where they discovered a 25-year-old man asleep behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry.

Reports indicate that the vehicle was still running and positioned at the end of the drive-through lane.

Police officers acted quickly, removing the keys from the ignition and attempting several times to rouse the sleeping driver.

When the man finally awoke, officers reportedly discovered empty bottles and wine casks scattered across the backseat of his car.

It is alleged that the driver provided a breath test reading of .158, more than three times the legal prescribed concentration of alcohol.

Police said the driver has never held a licence.

The 25-year-old was arrested in relation to other outstanding matters.

He is expected to also be charged in relation to the drive-through incident with drink-driving and other driving offences.
