Daylight saving time: These states want to stop changing the clocks

As the calendar flips to November, Americans prepare to set their clocks back to standard time, marking the end of daylight saving time. While many states hoped to avoid this seasonal shift, only two will skip the extra hour of sleep on Sunday.

Lawmakers in all but four states have introduced legislation aiming to “lock the clocks.” In reality, this number is closer to 14, but more on that later.

In Congress, bills continue to circulate that could establish permanent daylight saving time nationwide or give states the authority to decide for themselves. One bill even received a hearing with a name that music legend Cher might appreciate, although a recent attempt to expedite it was unsuccessful.

This pattern of stalled progress is mirrored at the state level, where numerous bills related to seasonal time changes have been proposed over the past year.
