In the early hours of Saturday, an explosive incident at Harvard University’s Longwood medical school campus prompted an investigation by the FBI. The situation unfolded at approximately 2:45 a.m. when a fire alarm was triggered in the Goldenson building located at 220 Longwood Avenue, Boston.

Upon the activation of the alarm, a Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officer was promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the officer witnessed two individuals fleeing from the premises, according to statements from Harvard officials to Fox News Digital.

In a bid to get more information, the officer attempted to halt the fleeing pair but soon proceeded to the fourth floor, the origin of the alarm. It was here that the officer discovered evidence of an explosion.

The Boston Fire Department Arson Unit was summoned to the site and, after an initial evaluation, determined that the explosion appeared to have been deliberate. This finding has now led to a comprehensive investigation by the authorities.

The Boston Fire Department Arson Unit responded and made an initial assessment that the explosion appeared to be intentional, officials said.

The Boston Police Department conducted a sweep of the building to check for any additional devices; none were found.
