The atmosphere reached a boiling point in Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night.

In a tense moment during the fourth inning of the decisive game in Toronto, benches cleared when Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski struck Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez on the shoulder with a pitch.

As Gimenez made his way to first base, an exchange of words with Wrobleski prompted players from both teams to rush onto the field along the first base line.

While most players gathered near the pitcher’s mound, a separate skirmish began near second base, in the direction Wrobleski was headed.

Despite the intensity of the encounter, no punches were thrown, and no players were ejected. Umpires managed to defuse the situation by issuing warnings to both teams.

In the top half of the inning, Los Angeles scored their first run of the game with outfielder Teoscar Hernandez hitting an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the Blue Jays’ lead to two.

Toronto struck first in the third inning when second baseman Bo Bichette blasted a three-run homer to deep center field off of Shohei Ohtani.

Bichette’s home run was Ohtani’s last batter after throwing 2⅓ innings as the starter for the Dodgers.

Ohtani was pitching on just three days rest, with his last start being on Oct. 28 for Game 4 of the series.

During that start, Ohtani picked up the loss, giving up four earned runs through six innings of work and throwing 93 total pitches.
