In the heart of Church Hill, Tennessee, the Maple Leaf Diner is stepping up to support the local community by providing complimentary meals to those facing tough times. This initiative began on a recent Sunday, sparked by a heartfelt inspiration experienced by Tina Turner, the diner’s co-owner, who felt a divine calling to help those in need.

Joining forces with The Homestead Shoppe Antiques, the diner has crafted a unique offering known as “The Homestead Community Special.” Initially, the plan was to serve a simple meal of grilled cheese, fries, and a drink. However, Turner and her team decided to enhance the menu with healthier options, ensuring that anyone who comes in can enjoy a nourishing meal.

The Maple Leaf Diner is welcoming donations to support this benevolent endeavor, which is set to continue as long as the government shutdown persists. The complimentary meals are exclusively available to customers who choose to dine in, creating an opportunity for community members to gather and share in the spirit of generosity and support.

“We were just going to do grilled cheese and fries and a drink, but we decided that we wanted to do something else that was a little bit healthier,” she said. “So we have some options for anybody that wants to come in and get a meal.”

Maple Leaf is accepting donations to help fund the special menu. Turner said her restaurant plans to continue the initiative until the government shutdown is over. The offer applies only to dine-in customers.

Just a short drive away to Mount Carmel, Turner’s other business, Maple Leaf’s Sweet Treats, is offering birthday cakes for those who did not receive their SNAP benefits in November and have a child with a November birthday. Click here for more information.
