The Pentagon has tasked its Department of Government Efficiency, the unit spearheading recent defense modernization efforts, with revamping the U.S. Army’s drone strategy, as initially reported by Reuters.

This decision comes in the wake of the stalled Replicator Initiative—an ambitious, department-wide push to deploy thousands of autonomous drones by August 2023. To date, the Department of Defense has not provided any updates on the progress of this initiative.

In September, a Pentagon representative noted that the Replicator’s capabilities were being handed over to “appropriate end state users,” according to a report by DefenseScoop.
