NYC Mayoral Race Heats Up: Candidates Intensify Campaigns as Early Voting Concludes

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) The conclusion of in-person early voting in New York City shattered previous records.

By Sunday, New Yorkers had flocked to polling stations, with over 735,000 ballots already submitted. This early participation marks a turnout four times greater than what was seen during the 2021 mayoral race.

As Election Day approaches on Tuesday, candidates are intensifying their efforts to engage with voters. Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani was seen campaigning in the Harlem area.

“You’ll find me talking to New Yorkers whether it’s 2 a.m. or 9 a.m. because we want to reach everyone we can before the polls close,” Mamdani expressed.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, visited a church in the Bronx.

“We have the momentum, people understand the issues now. They are focused, they are coming out and we are going to win,” Cuomo said.

Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa held a rally at a park in Woodhaven, Brooklyn. “They didn’t want our voices heard in 2021 when I warned everyone that every Adams would be corrupt and it would be chaos,” Sliwa said.

According to exclusive polling from affiliate WPIX, Emerson College and The Hill, Mamdani holds a strong lead with 50%, followed by Cuomo at 25%, and Sliwa at 21%. If the polls are right, 34-year-old Mamdani could soon make history by becoming New York’s youngest mayor in more than a century, and the city’s first Muslim and immigrant to hold the office in modern times.

There is no early voting on Monday. Poll workers will use Monday to prep for the all-important Election Day, when voting begins at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
