AIKEN, S.C. () – A man from Aiken faces charges of kidnapping and assaulting his son following a domestic incident.
The incident occurred on October 25th at a residence on Peacock Court in Aiken. The victim, accompanied by her son and other children, was visiting the home of the suspect’s mother.
According to reports, Derrick Carter returned home intoxicated, prompting the victim to decide to leave with her son.
Carter allegedly reacted angrily, seizing the woman by the neck, dragging her outside, and forcefully throwing her to the ground.
In an attempt to protect his mother, the child reportedly struck Carter, who then allegedly retaliated by hitting his son in the face.
The victim tells the child to go get in the car….Carter begins toward the car and the mom jumps in.
Reports say Carter got into the vehicle and began to drive at a high rate of speed from his mother’s home.
He reported said, “I’m gonna kill us, I’m gonna kill us all.”
The suspect eventually crashed and rolled the vehicle.
Derrick Carter is charged with:
- Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child
- Kidnapping
- Use of Motor Vehicle Without Permission
- Domestic Violence 1st Degree
He remains in the Aiken County Jail.
